Time to enter the modern age?

I just got an offer in the mail that is making me think it might be time to upgrade from dialup to DSL. As a “thank you” for being such a loyal customer, AOL is offering me a chance to get Verizon DSL plus my AOL service for only $2 more per month than I pay now. I keep thinking there will be a catch when I delve into all the small print details. Also, I’ve heard Verizon DSL can have some problems with Macs. The offer is only good through this month, so I have to decide fast… though I suppose as usual, there will be another offer soon. (That is something that always drives me crazy about my gym—they are always saying it’s the last month, last week, or last day of a membership sale… but a new one always seems to start the next day.)

Anyway, if anyone has experience with AOL/ Verizon DSL on a Mac computer, I’d appreciate any advice!

As far as there being a catch with the AOL DSL deal, I can tell you being an insider that THERE IS NO CATCH! :-) It really is a great offer combining high-speed DSL with the content and programming of AOL. I'll try to get you an insider answer to your VerizonDSL-on-Mac question.
p.s. great blog!

I'm a regular person with Verizon and too many Macs to count. I've never had a problem but I go direct and not through AOL.

I can't think of any obvious reason why a Mac would be incompatible with DSL from a certain provider.

I know that Verizon in the New York and east coast area is not always cooperative with third party vendors so sometimes there are problems.

Go to boradbandreports.com to hear what actual people have to say about the serivce.

Sorry I typo'd that URL.
It's actually this:

I read that Verizon provides their customers with 2WIRE Home Portals. If such an option is available, then I would definitely go for it. It's an excellent consumer-class device, combining DSL modem, router with firewall functionality and wireless access point in one box (I'm using one with SCB/Yahoo! DSL service). All configuration is done using any web browser, and you won't need to install any software (PPPoE, nor anything else). So it doesn't matter what kind of operating system is installed on your computer - Windows, OSX, Linux, whatever.

Can't give you any advice but it is one of those things....

...when you have tried it you'll never go back!

I've heard -- I forget where -- that AOL is about to increase its dial up service charge to be approximately equal to DSL in order to wean people from dial up.

I quit AOL about 6 months ago because at that time they had no DSL offer for me.

The other commenters are right: once you upgrade from dial up you will Never Ever Want to Go Back. Ever. Some things are just worth the money.
