Vacation?

I had been thinking I couldn't afford to do any trips to exotic locations for the next year or so, but I just discovered that I have over 75,000 mileage points on United waiting to be redeemed.... hmmm!
So I need to find a place that is expensive to get to but relatively cheap once you're there... I'm thinking maybe Argentina or Thailand...

My brother and his wife took their honeymoon in Argentina and found some really, really nice places to go and stay for a steal. If you decide to go there, drop me a line via my website and I can hook you up with some info.

My husband and I have been to both. Buenos Aires, Argentina was great...the food, ambiance and culture were reminiscent of a grand European city. And as anywhere, there are great deals to be had, but it's really not as "rock bottom" as we anticipated, though we were there in late 2003. We did have some really nice, cheap meals, though ;-)
We were in Bangkok, Thailand this past summer, and it was far more exhilarating. The food was great everywhere, and the people and the streets were entertaining and lively, without feeling dangerous. If you get a good guidebook, you'll find a huge variety of things to do. And if you're looking for cheap, an amazing massage can cost under $10 and there are great bazaars unlike anything we've seen in terms of price and quality.

I found Spain to be incredibly affordable (Barcelona). I discovered the incredible beauty of the Gaudi architecture worth the price of the ticket to get there.

I just returned from a month-long South American trip (1 week Santiago, Chile, 2 weeks Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1 week Rio de Janero, Brazil). My favorite of the three was Buenos Aires by far. It is an strange city in that although located in South America, it's middle-classes want to act and be thought of as Europeans. If you enjoy walking around NYC or London or Paris you'll really like Buenos Aires. It is also less than half the cost of places like Rio. For exapple you can eat in a five-star silver service restaurant like Los Lilas for US$35 p/person. Less fancy places cost a lot less (a favorite was "Chinese" buffet restaurants that cost less than $5 - although they really aren't really Chinese). I stayed at an upmarket expensive hotel but there are a number of **** star hotels in popular areas off Florida-street for about $100 /d, I'd definitely return to BA and if you have the time and miles why nnot give it a try. Enjoy.
