Happy Valentine's Day

I can't believe it's February 14th already! I just ran out at lunch to buy a card for Sweetie, and was happy to find a good one for under $3 after thinking I might have to spend $7!
Sweetie and I both liked this article from the NY Times this past weekend: When Love Outgrows Gifts on Valentine's Day, and were agreeing with the philosophy of only giving gifts when you feel inspired to do so, rather than out of obligation on certain holidays. Yet after talking about it, I blurted out "we're not exchanging gifts for Valentine's Day, are we?" There's always that little doubt, that one person will do something when the other least expects it! But a card always seems nice. I just wish I'd gotten my act together in time to make one instead of buying one. Oh well, there's always next year!

Great content! Valentine's Day is the love day. The day we can express our love to our special one. But this is the day we can express our love to people in need.

We've agreed not to do gifts for valentines or sweetest day either. We're still doing birthdays and Christmas. I think birthdays will eventually become just a day to treat the other to something fun and special they want to do. Christmas always needs at least one gift under the tree though.

For our anniversary, we've agreed on a plan. When we got married, I arranged a surprise visit to the spa at the hotel, where we held our wedding, for right before our rehearsal dinner. We had a candlelit aromatherapy bath with glasses of champagne followed by an hour couple's massage. We both agreed this was THE BEST THING EVER. It made us super calm and relaxed right before all the craziness. So we've agreed that every year, we'll go to the hotel where we married, visit the spa, have dinner and drinks, and remember the start of our marriage. I'm already looking forward to it. :)
