Did you wrap it in saran wrap and pop it in a freezer bag? I freeze meat all the time (both raw and cooked) and find its a great way to stretch your dollar by buying in bulk. I would have pulled it out the night before, so it had almost a full 24 hours to defrost in the fridge.
