He didn't think to get travel health ins. He was at a family wedding vacation, jogging on a path, tripped and smashed in his face. Scary b/c his breathing was impaired v. seriously. The private hospital costs were ~$40K and people are making donations and spreading the word and thinking of having fundraisers.

Medical debts are the number one reason for bankruptcy.

(BTW, I hope your dad is doing ok. I didn't know it was brain tumor. I hope it is benign.)mapgirlhttp://www.mapgirl.net/mfcnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14245531.post-83271646128230556612009-07-31T04:51:29.892-04:002009-07-31T04:51:29.892-04:00great post! i enjoy reading it.

Whenever this is some type of crisis, everyone rallies together to help. My cousin had cancer and last year we raised over $10K during a spaghetti supper fundraiser to help with his expenses. I think that the willingness to help is what makes us a special part of the country in which to live.Shondanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14245531.post-31329308402674112472009-07-29T13:35:52.951-04:002009-07-29T13:35:52.951-04:00I always enjoy reading your posts, and I also appr...I always enjoy reading your posts, and I also appreciate your links and your thoughtful commentary on them. Health insurance shouldn't contain so many exceptions, exclusions, hoops and hurdles policyholders have to jump through.

I guess that's what happens when you have for-profit companies managing our health. It'll always be a secondary concern to them becus profit comes first.

I for one will be among the first to sign up for a government run plan.dawnhttp://www.creditfyi.comnoreply@blogger.com
