5K

I wish that title meant I was running a 5K race to raise money for some worthy cause. Unfortunately I can barely run 5 blocks, let alone whatever a K is, but the good news is that this blog got its 5000th hit sometime today! A big thank you to everyone who has been part of this, especially those who have commented or posted links back to the site. It hasn't even been two full months since I've started writing My Open Wallet, but I'm having a lot of fun with it, and I hope it's fun to read too.

As for the future, here's a few things I've got cooking:
--Some customization of the design, as I'm getting sick of the green.
--A series of articles about my financial genetics: influences from family members
--A look at what different people mean by "middle class"
--Some stories about childhood money-related experiences
--More details about various expense categories
--More scathing reviews of books I haven't read
--An X-rated tale involving Miracle Whip, 9-volt batteries, and Condoleezza Rice

So watch this space! And if there's anything else you'd like to see covered here, your dj takes requests so please let me know!
Thanks again,
Madame X

Congrats! Just a quick question...

Where are you getting the statistic for 5K hits?

Thanks.

I think 5 NYC blocks is a K.

Jose, I'm not sure I have any brilliant tips, but I think these have helped:
-- posting frequently
-- commenting on other blogs, with a direct link to a related post, rather than just my home page
-- submitting a listing to various blog directories
-- submitting articles to two Carnivals of Personal Finance (so far)
-- including a link or trackback if I mention someone else's blog in my own posts

Also, I don't know if this helps, but I know when I scan all the blogs I read via MyYahoo, sometimes the post title makes it sound like the article is just a rehash of a news item or something else that I've already seen discussed a lot. I try to give my posts interesting titles that will make people using RSS feed readers a reason to want to click through and see what they're about. (and I try to not write posts that are just rehashes of news items!)

The miracle-whip, 9-volt battery tale sounds interesting :)

I'm also interested in hearing what you have to say about the middle-class thing. I've often been curious to know what 'middle class' actually means.
