Wow, this is pretty amazing. Walmart to Offer $4 Generic Prescriptions
These prices will be available to insured and uninsured customers-- something tells me the pharmacy counters at WalMart are going to have some pretty long lines when this goes into effect!
Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest retailer, said it would begin selling generic versions of widely prescribed drugs to its workers and customers at sharply reduced prices, a move that could force rival pharmacies to do the same.
The giant discount chain, which has used its size to knock down the costs of toys, clothing and groceries, will sell 300 generic drugs for as low as $4 for a one-month supply. On average, generic drugs cost between $10 and $30 for a 30-day prescription.
Wal-Mart will test the lower prices at 65 stores in the Tampa, Fla., area and, depending on consumer response, is likely to expand the program next year.

I heard on NPR, I believe, that Target will match walmart on this, but they didn't say what will be Target's test market.
Maybe I should see if I can find an article...
I was stunned, frankly, to hear about Wal-Mart doing something that will genuinely help people.
amazing, imo...walmart is such a phenomenon to me...this may make me actually go there to shop.
It sounds great,no? But if you take a look at the list of drugs, most of them are generics that are low in price already, so it's not like WalMart is taking a huge step... but of course, any savings is welcome, especially from a retailer like Walmart.
I was bummed to see that there were no birth control pills on the list. That is what would currently help me!
Three cheers for Wal-Mart. And now they've started selling 3 months of those generics for $10. Wow! For my other meds that aren't generic I use the prescription discount card that I found at www.rxdrugcard.com. Low membership fee. Drug prices posted to check before you join.
