Get a Life... For $4,000 to $10,000 a Month

Another fun story about one way to burn several thousand dollars a month:

Looking for someone to curate your life? Need a personal concierge whose expertise is not picking up dry-cleaning but helping chose your wardrobe, your tastes, your friends? Ms. Storr calls herself a personal manager, but her duties go far beyond that. Her clients, all of them men, pay monthly fees of $4,000 to $10,000 to have her be their personal decider in nearly all things lifestyle-related.

I wouldn't mind a little help with a few things now and then: if I had that much money to burn, I'd want a chef and a personal trainer. But I'll choose my own friends, thank you!

Hmm, if I had money to burn, I'd sign up for a chef, a personal trainer and a housekeeper. I can dress myself and choose my own friends.

The 'personal manager' is not something I can ever see myself needing or wanting. Still, it's an interesting choice of career. Certainly seems to pay well. Good for her. She's found a niche.

I read a Chick lit book about this called The Little Lady Agency. She provided general wifely service (not the sexual part) to men who needed a companion for a wedding or someone to choose their suits or someone to help them break up with their girlfrield or plan their party. Of course in the book she ends up falling in love with the one client and whatnot.

It was an amusing read and seemed quite practical for some of the men. If I were a bit older and more stylish, I might give it a go in DC. Oh, and not married--because I wouldn't want to be on call all the time.

Good for her finding something she enjoys doing. As for the "men" who can afford the money to have someone do this kind of stuff for them... grow up and take responsibility for yourself! If you'd get out of the office once in a while you'd have time to do it and it probably wouldn't cost you $4,000 - $10,000 a month in your pay!

Mrs. Micah......"chick lit"....is that what they call romance nowadays?? I agree with fecundity that she's found a niche and if people are paying that much it must be dire!!! And on the flip side, as Curtis Miller said, if people got to moving and not live, eat and sleep their jobs, they wouldn't need to pay somebody to straighten out their lives....Come to think of it, they would not even need to make that extra 4-10k a month. Can money really buy you "everything?"

@anon: "Chick lit" is the industry term used to describe books marketed to younger women in their twenties and thirties. It often includes romance, but the protagonists are usually chic, independent women with careers (or who are struggling to make careers). So, stuff like Scruples or Bridget Jones's Diary would qualify, but the traditional Harlequin Romance often won't.
