Toilet Paper in Zimbabwe

According to a NY Times front page story about inflation in Zimbabwe:

"toilet paper costs $417. No, not per roll. Four hundred seventeen Zimbabwean dollars is the value of a single two-ply sheet. A roll costs $145,750 — in American currency, about 69 cents."
Prices in Zimbabwe have risen 913% in the past year.

Now I don't feel so bad about my local fruit vendor raising the price of bananas from 25 to 35 cents.

price of bananas is up from 25 to 35 cents. i understand that it is a 40% increase, but does that get you one banana? a dozen? a quintal? pray tell!

ps: just in case you are wondering, in india, bananas are sold by count (e.g. by the dozen), not by weight, like in the usa.

Good point! That is the price of a single banana at a Manhattan fruit vendor's cart.
