We lost two notable figures this week: first, Brooke Astor, who was famous for her wealth and philanthropy. Everything that has been written about her mentions her attitude toward money, which was that it was her duty to use it for good.
And then, Phil Rizzuto, the famous Yankee shortstop. He was of the generation of baseball players who never became truly wealthy from their salaries, but supported themselves by endorsements for years afterwards. And Rizzuto, of course, was for many years the spokesman for The Money Store!
