Fancypants Lawyers

Literally! Here's a nice light-hearted topic for a change:

Women lawyers at City firm Clifford Chance have been given a £90 lingerie allowance. How should they spend it?

Women lawyers at top [London] City firm Clifford Chance are bucking the trend for reduced expenses now that their £90 lingerie-and-blouse allowance, if they work later than 11pm, has been reinstated. Inevitably dubbed the "90 nicker knicker allowance", this may or may not be the most reliable indicator yet that the credit crunch is over.

Now that is a fascinating benefit I've never heard of any other company offering. At current exchange rates, £90, aka 90 nickers, is about $144, which should suffice to buy some very pretty panties. But what about men? Do they get to expense their undies if they work late too?

I would like to know who came up with that! Instead of offering gasoline allowances, utility allowances, they get lingerie allowances...to be honest I wouldn't mind if my job offered me that, although I would be curious as to why they were so interested in my underpants...

Let's say you work past 11pm on a Friday. Do you get both a car service home and a new pair of undies? Do you have to buy the undies or do you just get the money IN CASE you needed them? Is there a limit to how many 11pm pairs of bloomers you're allowed to buy on the company dime before they expect you to just keep a freaking spare in your desk drawer? What if you go commando, what's your compensation there?

Well, that's cool allowance. I have heard this allowance for the first time; i think even men deserve to get the similar kind of allowances too.

Sometimes an item given to a woman is actually more for the benefit of a man...

I am sure this is where the expression, "Don't get your knickers in a knot." came from!

Welcome back X : )

Is it actually called lingerie and blouse allowance? Really? I hope never to work at a company where they are nervous about my underpants. I can take care of myself thank you very much!

I worked at a large law firm this past summer and I must say they had some nice perks like free dinner when you work more than 9 or 10 billable hours, matching contribution to any money you donate to your law school, technology allowance...but this is the most unusual perk I've every heard of. Why not just provide a free bedroom at the office so that lawyers never have to miss any billable hours?!
